was watching to see what was going to happen Antworten

ATLANTA -- Paul Goldschmidt doesnt often stand and stare at his homers. This time he had to look, just to make sure his drive stayed fair. He liked what he saw. Wade Miley earned his first win since early May, Goldschmidt hit a two-run homer and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat Atlanta 3-1 on Sunday to end the Braves nine-game winning streak. Goldschmidt ripped an inside pitch from Alex Wood toward the left-field seats in the third inning. He said he immediately figured it had home run distance. He was just hoping the ball would stay fair, and it hit the foul pole for his 16th homer. "I wasnt sure," Goldschmidt said. "I knew it probably had the distance but it started fair and was going, so that was one of the few times I was watching to see what was going to happen. I saw it hit the pole and come down. I was pretty happy." Miley (4-6) allowed one run on five hits and one walk in 6 2-3 innings. He struck out eight. The left-hander was 0-3 in his previous nine starts and had not won since beating the White Sox on May 10. The win snapped his streak of five straight no-decisions. Miley shrugged when asked if he was relieved to finally get his fourth win. "You really cant control that," he said. "Youve just got to go out and try to give your team a chance to win. Thats the plan. You dont go out to try to get wins, you just try to get quality innings and get your offence on the field and we were able to do that and able to score enough runs today." Wood (6-7) allowed two runs on only three hits and three walks in seven innings. B.J. Upton was 0 for 4 with three strikeouts to end his career-best 11-game hitting streak for NL East-leading Atlanta. The loss kept the Braves from sweeping their third straight series. "We had a great run, had a great homestand," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. Before the game, the Diamondbacks traded right-hander Brandon McCarthy and cash to the Yankees for left-hander Vidal Nuno. Pinch-hitter Nick Evans run-scoring double off Luis Avilan in the ninth pushed Arizonas lead to two. Evans drove in Martin Prado, who singled off Anthony Varvaro and stole second base. Addison Reed gave up a leadoff single to Tommy La Stella in the ninth before striking out Christian Bethancourt. Reed wrapped up his 20th save when Ryan Doumit hit into a double play. Arizona right-hander Brad Ziegler gave up a leadoff single to Andrelton Simmons in the eighth. With one out, Ziegler walked Justin Upton, and the runners advanced on Jason Heywards groundout. Ziegler struck out Chris Johnson to end the inning. Walks hurt both starting pitchers. Wood issued a walk to Miley to open the third inning before Goldschmidts two-out homer gave the Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead. Goldschmidt, who had an infield single in the first, had two of Arizonas three hits off Wood. "Thats baseball for you," Wood said. "You go into the game telling yourself that theres one guy you dont want to let beat you and then he ends up beating you." Miley walked Justin Upton to open the fourth. He scored from second on Johnsons single up the middle. Miley didnt allow another hit until Bethancourt singled with two outs in the seventh. Evan Marshall got the final out of the inning after walking pinch-hitter Dan Uggla. The teams top cornerback returned to practice Wednesday for the first time in a month after a high ankle sprain kept him sidelined since Aug. 10. Milliner was a limited participant, and his status for the Jets game at Green Bay on Sunday is still uncertain. But it was a promising development for Milliner, who injured his left ankle during training camp. "I feel great," Milliner said. "I feel good. I did some things the other day and moved around a lot." Rex Ryan said a big test to gauge whether Milliner might be able to play this weekend is how the ankle feels Thursday. Milliner worked in team drills, and participated in individual drills with the defensive backs. "Lets see how he comes back," Ryan said. "(Green Bay) had 75 snaps on offence, and I dont expect Dee to play 75 snaps on defence. But well see how he progresses. "Im cautiously optimistic that hell be able to go." That means the Jets could have their main cover guy against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers potent offence — even if hes not on the field the entire game. "Look around, if he can play in a limited role, lets play him in a limited role," Ryan said. "Thats how I see it. In his case, I dont believe the injury can get worse. Its pain, its a lot of different things, but hes healed. I think its just now working through some soreness and everything else, mental things." The Jets started safety Antonio Allen and backup Darrin Walls at cornerback in the 19-14 season-opening win over Oakland last Sunday. Both Allen and Walls were solid, particularly with open-field tackles, but the return of Milliner — who proclaimed during camp that he believes hes the NFLs top cornerback — would be a huge boost to Ryans secondary. New York has been thin at the cornerback spot since Milliiner was injured, rookie Dexter McDougle was lost for the season with a knee injury and veteran Dimitri Patterson, an expected starter, was released after the Jets said he left the team before a preseason game and didnt speak to anyone in the organization for 48 hours.dddddddddddd The Jets have been scrambling to find depth since, and hoping for Milliner to return sooner rather than later. "Im very optimistic," Milliner said. "Just have to get out there and do what they tell me to do, just keep working. Basically, just do what they tell me to do, and if I feel good, Ill be out there." Right guard Willie Colon (calf) and rookie linebacker Ikemefuna Enemkpali (foot) were limited at practice. Colon isnt concerned about his injury and doesnt think itll be an issue Sunday, while Enemkpali missed the opener. Safety Josh Bush (quadriceps), linebacker A.J. Edds (hamstring) and tight end Jeff Cumberland (personal reasons) did not practice. NOTES: The Jets drafted S Calvin Pryor with the No. 18 overall pick in May, choosing him over Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, considered by some to be the top safety available. Clinton-Dix ended up being drafted by the Packers three spots after Pryor. "Both guys were excellent players," Ryan said during a conference call with Packers reporters. "We would have been happy with either guy. But I took the guy who will knock your face in." ... QB Geno Smith on the Ray Rice situation: "The NFLs made a decision and the Ravens have made their decision. I have met Ray and, personally, I think hes a good dude. I think he made a mistake, and in a time like that, you just have to let the powers that be do their job, and they have." ... Packers QB Aaron Rodgers on his teams last meeting with the Jets, a 9-0 win for Green Bay in 2010: "We had a great game. We scored nine points, they scored zero. So, it was a barn burner." ' ' '
